PayrollCheck

Catch payroll errors before you run payroll.

Compare this payroll with last payroll. Terminated employees still getting paid, new hires, people who disappeared and gross pay that jumped past your limit are marked up in seconds, before a wrong number reaches someone's paycheck.

Your files never leave your computer. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, so there's nothing to leak, and there's no signup.

Which sheet is the payroll?

What each mark means

Red needs fixing before you run payroll; blue needs a second look. These are the changes that hide in a side-by-side scan of two exports.

Terminated but paidSomeone marked terminated or inactive who still has pay on this payroll.
New this payrollAn employee who wasn't on the last payroll. Confirm the hire is real before they're paid.
Not in this payrollSomeone paid last time who isn't on this one. Confirm they actually left.
Changed more than your limitGross pay that moved more than the percentage you set since last payroll, or went from 0 to a paid amount. Changes in hours and rates are listed in the note to explain why.

Data issues inside a file

The errors that slip through a manual scan of a few hundred rows. "Check one payroll" looks for all of them. When you compare, both files are checked too, except for overtime and pay mismatch, and the issues are listed under the sheet, apart from the changes.

Missing valueBlank employee IDs, store names or other required fields that would break the payroll run or leave someone unpaid.
Duplicate IDThe same employee ID on two rows, the kind of double entry that gets someone paid twice.
Negative numberNegative hours, rates or overtime where only a positive value makes sense.
Not a numberText where a number should be ("N/A", a stray letter) that a formula would silently choke on.
Broken rowA row knocked out of shape by a bad export, such as an unquoted comma or a missing field, so the columns no longer line up.
Pay mismatchGross pay that doesn't equal hours × rate on a row without overtime. Turn it on under the sheet.
Overtime over your limitOvertime above the limit you set. Often a typo; always worth checking before it costs real money.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop both payrolls

Export this payroll and last payroll from your payroll or time system and drop them on the sheet together. Excel workbooks and CSV files both work. If a workbook has more than one sheet, you pick the one with the payroll.

  2. 2

    Read the marks

The control total compares headcount and gross pay with last time. Every flagged employee gets a mark and a plain-English note saying what changed.

  3. 3

    Confirm and send back

Download the flagged employees and the data issues, with a note on each. Confirm every change with whoever owns the data, and fix what's wrong before payroll runs.

Payroll data is nobody's business but yours.

Most online tools ask you to upload salaries, names and hours to their server. This one doesn't. Every check runs on your own machine, in your browser. The file is never sent anywhere, so there's nothing to leak, nothing to trust, and nothing stopping you from using it offline.

The page counts anonymous visits and which buttons get used, with GoatCounter and no cookies. It never sees what's in your files. The only thing this page ever sends is what you type into the early access form.
